What in the world happened to January? Six more weeks of winter-like weather for us mid-westerners, oh yeah! I know how all of us must feel about that!
Anyways, our girls are finally on the mends. Two girls = two ear infections (one a piece). Poor Samantha came down with a terrible cough/cold and was taken to the doctors to make nothing more was wrong with her. Her cough was so persistent and sounded as though it hurt but she was getting buy. There were even times when she played and ran around the house as if nothing was wrong. Come to find out her lungs sounded great, no sore throat (or strep), but she had an ear infection (she never used and apparently still does not seem bothered by ear infections). I suppose we're blessed with that characteristic. Medication was prescribed for five days, well in the a matter of three days Bailey finally started developing the lovely symptoms that Samantha had only Bailey was "barking" with her cough (on/off throughout the day not just at night). Bailey was then taken back to the doctors (this was her second visit week in one week. Her first visit was her 9 mo checkup). Like her sister, her lungs sounded great, no strep like symptoms, however she had a really bad infected ear. Even though her lungs sounded great the cough that was described to the doctor worried him so she was placed on antibiotics for her ear and a steroid to help with her cough. Needless to say, Samantha was checked out along with Bailey this time and Samantha's ear infection had not gotten worse but was not getting better so she was prescribed a different medication. So, five days later we are almost completely finished with coughing, no more runny noses, no one is complaining that their ears hurt (although neither one was indicating that to begin with so I suppose that doesn't matter). Five more days of antibiotics for both girls and hopefully all will be behind us!
Aside from the sickness things are going well. Bailey is pulling herself up, transferring from one support to another, and has been caught about three times now standing on her own (only for seconds). Regardless she is accomplishing fun milestones! Just in the past day she has really discovered her tongue and has started making new noises using her tongue...if only mom and dad were up with times so we could video tape it and post it for all to see...better luck next time i suppose (thank goodness mom at least keeps a journal of all these important events).
Samantha has learned a new word and concept from MeMaw Helen (Sara's mom)..."favor" as in "do me a favor please" which she uses often now. Her vocabulary is growing all the time, we just hope she keeps her strong interest in reading as she proceeds through her school years.
Since dad is coaching wrestling and has had to work the past few Saturdays, Samantha and I have searched the website http://www.familyfun.com/ for things to do. We've made bird feeders out of toast and ice cream cones. Its been fun and is a good site for all sorts of family focused things to do for all ages!
Until next time, stay warm, healthy, and happy!
